Lysterfield Park is a place for all ages. Although the park’s most popular attraction is its mountain bike trails, there are hiking trails, picnic areas and barbecue facilities. There’s even a playground and the lake itself, which is safe for swimming and non-motorised boats. It’s also a paradise for wildlife spotting and bird watching. There are about 140 species of birds that have been recorded. Although the most common wildlife sightings are the wallabies and roos above all else, you should avoid visiting on busy days to ensure your chances of seeing one. Lysterfield Park, located at the northern tip of the picnic area, has a bird hide for anyone who is interested in photographing and spotting birds.
The bushland that surrounds the lake contains a mix of remnants and plantations such as River Red Gum (Southern Mahogany), Spotted Gum (Blue Gum), Swamp Gum(Blue Gum), Forest Red Gum), Long-leaved Box (Sugar Gum) and Swamp Gum.
