Tirhatuan Park

The park’s great community was created with the help of Dandenong residents as well as primary school children. This is evident in the vibrant artwork and design of monsters!
The play area is mostly wooden boat-like shapes, with a HEAP that keeps everyone entertained.
It’s got everything you’d like to keep your entire family members happy.
For little ones, There’s a sandpit small slides, swings, tunnels for climbing through and monsters to climb.
For older models, there are plenty of climbing alternatives, diggers, bar monkeys, fireman poles chain bridge, double slide flying Fox, balance beams pipes phones, balance beams, and many more.
For adults There are tables with covers as well as boards, walking tracks as well as a dog park off-leash (enclosed) and the flora/fauna zone.
With ample space, lots of shade trees, and mostly enclosed it’s a great picnic place.
In yet another family bicycle ride, this time on the Dandenong Creek trail we came across the well-maintained Tirhatuan wetland and playground, which is worth mentioning for those seeking a new location to take your children or your beloved dog.
Tirhatuan Park is mostly off the radar when you do the Google search and is a bit surprising considering the park’s 20-hectare natural landscapes. It has 2 lakes and a wetland playground, boardwalk and BBQ area, as well as a massive, fully enclosed off-leash space for dogs, as well as plenty of room to play around or play football, fly kites, search for frogs, birds and other insects in the wetlands. You can also utilize the trails for cycling and walking.
The play area is divided into two zones, with the theme of a wooden boat on one end, complete with swings, slides, a fireman’s pole, ladders, and other equipment that is suitable for preschoolers. On the opposite side of the path is a sandpit that has a digger, and behind that is a high-climbing net and flying fox, as well as taller swings, slides along with other playground equipment that is appropriate for children between 5 to 10 years old.
The BBQ and picnic facilities are great with lots of tables under the shade and under 4 distinct pergolas, including the “butterfly” shelter as well as one with a view of the wetlands. There are three electric barbecues available for use as well as water taps.

The area is home to significant forests in Swamp Scrub and remnants of Swampy Woodland as well as extensive flora and fauna, such as fish and a wide variety of frogs and birds. Tirhatuan park is a great place to start bike excursions or for long hikes that lead to the nearby Jells Park. The park has two walking trails to choose from – one lasts 40 minutes while the other one takes around 75 minutes.
The surface is flat, with bitumen tracks and gravel about 100 m of the uneven dirt track. in front of Oliver Court to view Dandenong Retarding Basin and Wetlands.
Best time to visit: cooler months, when the wetlands are filled with water and temperatures are not too hot. This park has limited shade.
Risks: There aren’t any barriers to protect the trail close to the wetlands, or in the vicinity of the playgrounds for children, so monitoring of children throughout the day is highly recommended. Snakes are likely to be around in peak times (October–May) Avoid wandering across the trails. The park is shaded but not a lot. Its Dandenong Creek Trail is shared with bicycles, be mindful.
