Alkira Secondary College

Casey Central Secondary College was created in 2009, temporarily within the campus at Hillsmeade PS. The college were renamed Alkira Secondary College in 2010 after we moved to our current location to become one of the first PPP , or public private partnership schools that follow the PVIS model. Our award-winning facilities are contemporary, agile and designed for pedagogical use. The school has grown to 1165 students, and become an active part of the Casey network of schools.

More About Us

The first generation with the guidance of the Principal, Ms. Ian McKenzie, embarked on an exciting journey that was characterized by the highest expectations and a dedication to continuous improvement and an emphasis of 21C education and learning. Our staff members are guided by the middle school’s educational philosophy and the research and lessons that were conducted by Zbar, Hattie, Marzano and Fullan.

The SWIS (schools within the school) model was developed to further strengthen the concept of individualized learning and understanding, and to build positive connections. This was the most effective method to facilitate the professional development of the staff to ensure that the goals are aligned as our culture evolved.

Pastoral Care is an important component that is a significant part of SWIS model. It also supports the idea of protecting the rights of every student. Pastoral Care has a focus on the development of learning experiences for students and the idea that PC teachers as well as the sub-school support team continue to work towards improving the performance of students.

An organized learning environment is facilitated by consistent and high expectations, and an approach to managing behavior that protects a child’s right to a secure and safe learning environment, as well as teachers’ right to manage and create a safe environment. This program is highly effective since it focuses on the students’ learning and gives an opportunity for reflection , and is a restorative method.

To concentration on the most important things it was the College helped to introduce the Highly Reliable Literacy Teaching Procedures (HRLTPs) through the John Munro Literacy program and in the following years, introduced FUN Learning to understand Numeracy and GRIN Making Ready in Numeracy as intervention programs for numeracy.

Under the banner of the big skies A personalised programme was introduced in the year 9 with students being taught in gender-specific courses in the core subject areas. There is also an array of electives that are designed to provide an overall independent learning experience for students.

Pathway programs are offered in the years between 10 and 12 and provide the opportunity for students to be engaged within VCAL as well as VCE and complement their courses by an VET program that is in their desired field of study. The College is a part of the Cranbourne VET cluster and has submitted a bid that was successful for a trade-training centre in Hospitality.

The College is accredited with International School status, and is open to students from all over the world each year. We have established an expansive international alliance, or group of affiliated schools across China, India and Korea. Alkira has teacher professional partnership that include Japan and Korea and a leadership alliance with Singapore.

We have taken 21C learning seriously and are currently preparing to implement an entire BYOD program. A more deliberate pedagogical response in response to BYOD is being considered and will be integrated into future teaching methods.
